Deborah Steinberger
Join us on a romp through the ages as we explore what is arguably the funniest of all dramatic genres: farce. We will study works by anonymous medieval authors, Molière and his contemporaries, Beaumarchais, Feydeau, Labiche and Ionesco, and end with a look at late twentieth-century theater. Students will experience drama firsthand by attending performances (when possible) and critiquing film versions of the plays, and by working in groups to stage brief scenes from the works studied.
Prerequisite(s): Two 300-level literature courses (FREN 301, 302 or 355).
