In Zurich, little blonde girls are disappearing and turning up dead. The villagers suspect a local man (Michel Simon), but his arrest proves to be a dead end in more ways than one. The Police Commissioner (Heinz Rühman) decides to setup a stakeout where most of the murders have occurred. There he uses a local blonde child to tempt the man know as ‘Sorcerer’. But finding him and bringing him to justice prove to be two very different things.  The film is a haunting drama focused on the tracking down of a vicious killer. The villain, coldly played by Gert Fröbe, haunts a deserted stretch of country highway.  The tension is thick and the finale is literally breathtaking.
