The students of the French Theater Workshop (FREN 456) performed a one-act play, Quelqu’un, by the French author Patrick De Bouter, on May 3, 2018, to a full house in UD’s Hartshorn Theater. The production, directed by Dr. Deborah Steinberger, served as the final project in this Discovery Learning Experience course, which combines the study of French language, literature, and culture, with intensive oral practice. The production was made possible with generous support from the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, and the Department of Theater. A few days after their performance, the students participated in a video conference with the play’s author, during which Mr. De Bouter answered their questions about his play and his career, which has combined theater and second language pedagogy.
