Francophone Women Writers
What does it mean when one declares that Francophone women “destroy the emptiness of silence” when they write? Is it “his-story” or “her-story” which they are writing? Would Ramatoulaye the protagonist of Une si longue lettre forgive her husband for having left her for a younger woman? What is a “misovire?”; a woman who eats men or hates them? Through fictional texts, one autobiography and three films (Women with open eyes, Karmen Gei and Faat Kine) we will discover the world as seen and written by Francophone women. We will also interview them on what Feminism, Womanism, and gender mean to them and what is their take on female circumcision. Let me warn you, their answers could be shocking and provocative but always stimulating for discussion.
