Language Proficiency Center

Quite apart from the Language Resource Center (LRC) is the Language Proficiency Center (LPC).  The Language Proficiency Center pairs language students with Spanish and French graduate students through an on-line scheduling system providing undergraduates with a tutorial appointment during which they can discuss composition errors, review video project outlines, discuss important grammatical topics, and engage in authentic target language conversation in fifteen or thirty minute segments.  Undergraduates taking French and Spanish language courses then meet their graduate student counterparts online via links in the on-line scheduling system or in-person.

A welcome addition to the LRC are the Language Conversation Tables where students of French and Spanish can gather without prior appointment to converse with native speakers in a relaxed and friendly setting that promotes acquisition through a gentle and authentic immersion experience.  Spanish Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 9 am to 11 and on Thursdays from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Language Resource Center (006 Jastak-Burgess Hall) while the French Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 pm to 2:30 at the same location.  Students of all proficiency levels are welcome.

Help for students of Arabic, Italian and Russian is also available without appointment on the following days and times:

Arabic with Adam – Mondays from 11:00 am to 1 pm.

Italian with Lu – Mondays from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Russian – Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 11 am.
