Computer Assisted Language Testing [CALT]: Advantages, Implications and Limitations
Abstract:
With the promulgation of technology as a powerful mechanism to transform education, the use of computer technology, in the field of language assessment and testing, has been widely contemplated since the advent of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning). This constant contemplation has resulted in the birth of an independent discipline named CALT (Computer Assisted Language Testing) which is reshaping and restructuring the very nature of language assessment fascinating many with its potential benefits and implications for the innovation of the profession. These potential benefits and their implications, for those who are associated with the profession of language assessment, are discussed in this paper offering a brief introduction and survey of historical development of the discipline.
