Resource Center Material Resources
How student projects and documents are created at the Language Resource Center depends in no small measure on the material resources made available to our student visitors. After all, little can be done if the computing resources (computers) of the site are unable to provide the connectivity necessary to engage in online research and electronic mail access as well as the software required for document publication, and slide show presentation development. Similarly, creating documents for class or publication is of little value if printed versions of them cannot be made.
Then there are the spaces. Collaborative student projects and tutoring sessions require conference tables to support such activities and perhaps big screens capable of displaying and sharing student discoveries and content. Since conversation is key to language acquisition, furnishings promoting relaxed conversational interaction must also be made available and facilities devoted to the study of video materials created in the target language made possible by deploying video capable screens at strategic locations throughout the site. It seems clear that such facilities require the following at a minimum:
